Biography
Dr Hossain has been a faculty member in the Department of Fish Biology and Genetics since October 2013. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries in 2012 and a Master of Science in Fish Biology and Genetics in 2013 from Sylhet Agricultural University, Bangladesh. In 2016, he was awarded the Erasmus Mundus European Excellence Scholarship and completed a joint Master’s degree in Marine Environment and Resources at the University of Bordeaux, the University of the Basque Country, and the University of Liège, where his research focused on ovarian atresia in European hake. He later received a fully funded RTP CMERC PhD Fellowship and the Central Queensland University International Excellence Award, and completed his doctoral degree in late 2025. His PhD research examined reproductive physiology and environmental drivers of female giant mud crabs along the Queensland coastline, using ecological, molecular, and experimental approaches, including field surveys and mesocosm experiments. During this period, he was a visiting PhD researcher at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Dr Hossain has received multiple awards and published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed journals. He serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS ONE and is an Editorial Board member for Nature Scientific Reports, Aquaculture, and Fish and Fisheries.
